FROM A TOP LEVEL EXECUTIVE IN THE MUSIC GAME TO A MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON… WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG FOR SWEET VANESSA? FIND OUT IN THIS ENTHRALLING, UNPUTDOWNABLE, BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN, CAUTIONARY MEMOIR.
When Vanessa copped a gig at a now-defunct record label-a label whose roster included platinum-selling artists-she was certain that money, power, and fame were right around the corner. However, she couldn’t have foreseen the maximum security prison that was waiting around that corner to snatch her up and strip her of the tiny piece of dignity she’d been struggling to keep.
In time, she would discover that her dignity and the high seat she sat on in the music game weren’t the only things in life she’d been stripped of. Before Truth Set Me Free chronicles Vanessa’s life BEFORE Truth stepped in, setting her free from some of the greatest lies ever told.
AAMBC Review 5 *****
Not much of a fan of memoirs, I was pleasantly surprised by Vanessa Murray-Yisrael’s debut. The fast paced autobiography is an easy read as it chronicles her life from her very humble beginnings to her sky rocketing success, and back full circle. Before Truth Set Me Free is written with the sass that you’d expect from a New York native and will strike each of its reader’s emotional cords as the author shares some of the struggles she endured during her life, career (even dropping a couple of familiar names), and love. The only downside I found with this witty, well written book was it left me a little unclear about what or who was the truth that set the author free and when did this revelation occur? It seems to possibly be a play on a particular religion, but I finished the tome a little unsure. But, then again, maybe I did not understand because it wasn’t my truth.
